Band of Brothers is an epic mini-series, that first aired on HBO many years ago and has now been released in a boxed set Blu-Ray collection, featuring a ton of special features. Directed by Stephen Spielberg and produced in part by Tom Hanks, this is a truly one of a kind experience, following one group of soldiers and their true life story of World War II.
There are 10 episodes in the series, and it follows Easy Company, an Airborne Division, all the way from their struggles in boot camp to the harrowing invasion, and all of the intense battles and ups and downs that follow. The action and fighting scenes are painstakingly produced, making for a truly stellar and realistic experience.
You'll find yourself rooting for the main characters, hating the characters they hate, and being genuinely nervous about the outcome of their battles despite obviously knowing the end result - yes, the Germans are eventually conquered, yes, the Americans pull through the Battle of the Bulge.
Band of Brothers on Blu-Ray is a truly fantastic experience, that will make for a great gift for a movie or war buff, or a great present to yourself. You'll be hard pressed to put these discs down to take a break, and you'll eat up all of the extra features as well. Band of Brothers was given all of the time, attention and care that it deserved, and Spielberg ended up with a masterpiece. Still a best selling DVD (or Blu-Ray now), there's great acting, great storytelling, sensational and dramatic war scenes and oh so much more.
